Siamese Schizophrenic depicts a maddened character stamping up and down in the canvas in a wild frenzy. At the time of its inception Dowdeswell was fighting battles on several fronts; artistically he was struggling for a new direction while personally he was vying to combat a serious bout of depression. The tableau of its frantic, juxtaposed use of shape and colour and movement clearly indicate thse conflicts while the painting remains a powerful document of those times.
