Being Gromit Malkovich
-
Being Gromit Malkovich is one of eighty life-sized Gromits commissioned as part of Gromit Unleashed an arts trail which will run between July 1st and September 8th in Bristol, UK with the works being auctioned to raise money for Bristol Children's Hospital. The concept was to create a world where everyone is clamoring to live life through the eyes of Gromit. As Gromit is taking over the streets of Bristol I thought it would be an interesting twist to turn Gromit into a city scape in his own right. Gromit now is not just a dog but an idea, a vision and a hope which encompasses the whole city; on the streets, in our homes, under blues skies and neon-lights people are volunteering to live, at least for a while, in Gromit's world. The project is a satire on the film Being John Malkovich while also paying homage to Heath Robinson-one of the pioneers of illustration. Furthermore the installation is a continuation of the Vorticist-inspired cityscapes which have been the focus of my artistic output for the past nine months...

Being Gromit Malkovich formed part of the Gromit Unleashed project which gripped Bristol, the UK and beyond during the summer of 2013.
As Gromit was taking over the city I thought it would be interesting to creat a cityscape whereby people are trapped inside Gromit himself. The project was an absolute pleasure to be a part of and helped raise over £2million for the re-developmen of Bristol Childrens Hospital.
